My work centers around traditional and contemporary, forms and methods of making. Investigating the past to better understand where we have arrived in the present and providing insight into where we are heading.
Placing value on a high level of hand skill and attention to detail, I favour the use of unseasoned wood, material in its rawest state.
Practicing in this way, an intimate understanding has been developed, where pieces are transformed through a dialogue between material and maker.
Throughout the drying process, my work evolves as moisture is released. The differential shrinkage that occurs during this carefully controlled procedure, produces naturally undulating curves and organic forms in the finished objects.
Utilising both traditional and contemporary methods of making, I also forge my own tools that both inform and inspire my work.
Passionate about safeguarding and transmitting skills, I am member of the Heritage Crafts Association. I also enjoy teaching on a one to one basis and to small groups.
